In this club you compete to write the best next chapters of an original book, and students from around the world participate. The more points you get, the more accessories for your cartoon character you can get! The whole club is conducted online. BLACC Certamen Forum
Congratulations to Joana Jankulla for planning and carrying out an excellent first Certamen Tournament attended by 9 other schools last Saturday, Jan 28. Congratulations also to the Advanced Level Team who placed 1st, the Novice Team who placed 2nd and the Intermediate Team who placed 3rd. Thank you to all the teachers who wrote questions and the students and college students who helped Joana run the show. A special thanks to Michael Howard, class of 2010, for writing all the finals questions and for his constant support of the teams.

2011 Boston City League All-City Team - Academic Award Winners: The Boston Scholar Ath is excited to announce the Determination Award: Presented to a Student-Athlete who has viewed all challenges as opportunities, maintained a positive attitude when overcoming obstacles, and encouraged his teammates never to give up. This year’s recipient is Brian Goff from Boston Latin Academy.
Science Fair results:
We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the BLA Science Fair on Tues. and Wed. a success. The best projects from individual classes competed for top honors and the opportunity to represent BLA in the city-wide science fair on Mar. 10th. In the middle school division, Chelsey Skeete and Michael John won first places for “I See Vitamin C” and “H2O2 Catalyzation”, respectively. Second place prizes went to Michelle Nguyen, for “The Light & Sugar Experiment,” and Vivian Greene, for “The Stroop Effect.” Handy Dorceus and Santiago Paniagua came in third, with “Which Windmill Can Help Save the World” and Water Depth vs. Wave Velocity,” and Brendan Mannion, Beatrice Espanola, Joanna Harper, and Nathan Metz-Lerman received honorable mentions.
In the high school division, first place awards went to Dan Chu, for “Falling and Falling,” and Stephanie Su for “Does Super Make Sense”. Carol Nguyen and Casey Nelson won second place awards for “What Effect Does Garlic Have On Bacteria?” and “Physics Of Billiards” Third places went to Hassan Sakhta, for “Improving Wi-Fi Signal Strength” and Sophia Lambropoulos, for “How Does The Type Of Shoe You Wear Affect The Pressure That You Apply On Your Foot?”. Honorable mentions include Elaine Marton, Carolyn Nguyen, Niti Patel, and Liam Low. Congratulations to everyone for their outstanding work.

Commitment is small (once or twice a month) and it will be a good experience. Come to a quick meeting Thursday, Feb. 2nd right after school in the CAVE to find out more! Contact: Ms. Bryant

FREE CONCERT: BLA will be hosting the Vocal Quartet of the Handel and Haydn Society for a free concert after school next Tuesday at 2:00pm in Carroll Hall. This is an amazing ensemble that has some of the best voices in Boston. Take advantage of this opportunity to hear some amazing FREE music. Tuesday, January 31st at 2:00pm in Carroll Hall!
