Community Service: Do you need community service hours and job experience? Volunteer to be a “Book Buddy” at Trotter Elementary School this spring. In this club you compete to write the best next chapters of an original book, and students from around the world participate. FREE CONCERT: BLA will be hosting the Vocal Quartet of the Handel and Haydn Society for a free concert after school next Tuesday at 2:00pm in Carroll Hall. This is an amazing ensemble that has some of the best voices in Boston. Take advantage of this opportunity to hear some amazing FREE music. Tuesday, January 31st at 2:00pm in Carroll Hall! Grade 7 Students: There will be a Sixie Sweetheart Dance held for seventh graders on Friday, February 10th from 2-4pm. Students will receive a permission slip in homeroom. YOUTH CITIES: Youth CITIES is a boot camp designed to introduce teens to social entrepreneurship through a combination of lectures, discussion/debate, and role-playing. High school students who are interested in launching a business that will provide a sustainable solution to real world problem should apply. The winner will receive $1500 seed grant money to launch their idea, and a specific group of mentors will be appointed as an Advisory Board to help them launch and to govern their spending. BAND, CHOIR, and THEORY STUDENTS: The BLA Music Program will be running a field trip next Thursday the 26th to Symphony Hall in Boston.  The trip will take us to see a closed rehearsal with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.  The trip will meet in the band room at the beginning of 3rd period and not return to school until the end of the school day at 1:30.  If you are interested in attending this trip the first 60 students to sign up outside the band room will receive permission slips on Monday.  Please clear up any tests or assessments with your teachers before signing up!  Theory students are required to attend.  SIGN UP NOW FOR THIS AWESOME OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE WORLDS BEST MUSICIANS!  Contact Mr. Wurman

· Swim team members who ordered clothes:  You may pick up your orders before or after school in room 206 (Ms. Byrne).

· Tickets for the Student vs. Faculty Dodgeball Game will be sold by Senior and Junior officers at all three lunches. Cost is $3 on Wednesday and Thursday and $5 Friday and Monday. The game will take place after school in the gym on Wednesday, March 10th. Raffle winners will be picked on Monday, March 8th.

· Boy’s & Girl’s Tennis:  There will be a preseason meeting for all students interested in trying out for the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams on Monday, March 8th at 2:00 pm in the Upper Cafeteria.

· Our school joins 25,000 schools nationwide in the Pennies for Patients program. For the next few weeks, we will help children who are sick with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. All you have to do is collect coins and other donations and put them in your homeroom’s collection box. The class with the greatest contribution will be awarded with a pizza party! Together we’re making a difference in the fight for a cure! Remember - every penny counts!  If any student wants and individual box, they can contact Amy Lam (HR 313), Bethlehem Solomon (HR 205), or obtain a box in the Guidance Office.  Please contact Mr. Ekholm-Jacobson with questions.

· The library has lots of brand new books. They are on display and you will like them… so come on down and borrow some!

· BLA Job Fair - Students are invited to attend the annual summer job and program fair Wednesday, March 3rd in the cafeteria from 1:40 - 2:30. There will be representatives from employers and programs available to speak with students about opportunities for the summer.

· The library will be closed all day on Friday, March 5th due to the administration of the National French Contest.

· There will be a Boston Interpreters Meeting on Wednesday, March 3rd from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in Room 203.
