Icy conditions at BLA

This morning I dropped my son and my niece off at school.  The icy conditions at BLA are awful.  I saw three students fall in front of school.  I noticed two young men helping a teacher walk across the street and into school. I don’t think the main stairs of the school were ever shoveled.  My son had told me after school on Thursday a student fell down the main stairs to the school.  I know that the storm hit us hard but this safety issue needs to be addressed before more students, teachers and staff are hurt.  Someone needs to get out there with sand and rock salt.  I have already emailed the Superintendents office.

I too was appalled at the icy steps and sidewalks around BLA. I saw many students who got off the bus on Warren Street fall as they struggled to walk on the icy sidewalk. They were forced to walk on the street where they had to share limited space with the traffic. After school, there was no improvement. My younger son fell as did several others and one girl fell down the steps and had a bloody mouth. My older son told me that the platform at the top of the main steps was a sheet of ice.

In the morning on my way home from dropping off my sons at BLA, I drove by English HS and conditions seemed just as bad. The sidewalks were icy, etc. I know that this was a difficult storm, but I don’t understand why they weren’t prepared to clean up before the kids got to school. There should have been crews out the night before getting sidewalks cleaned up around the schools. The students’ safety should be a top priority at all times.
