This past Saturday, 38 members of the BLA Classics Club, two teachers and three parents attended the annual MassJCL Catapult Contest in Williamstown MA. There were many activities to do there but the primary one was the catapult contest. There are three divisions: the marshmallow catapult, the ballista (that shoots a one pound arrow) and the trebuchet (which shoots an 8 pound shotput.) Junior Richard Lapia won first place in the marshmallow division, for the second year in a row. Last year his marshmallow flew a distance of 75 feet. He made some improvements in his catapult and this year it flew 100 feet. In the ballista contest, club engineer Senior Bianca Joachim achieved a third place win with a distance of 99 feet. This is the first time ever that BLA has placed in the ballista contest.
Congratulations to our team!
