Headmaster Maria Garcia-Aaronson asked me to post this transcript of the phone call she made to us all last night.

The purpose of this communication is to address events that occurred at the “Boston Latin Academy Semi” on Friday night. This annual event has traditionally been the most enjoyable social event for our high school students.

The event was held at the IBEW Hall and was chaperoned by 25 faculty members/administrators, our school police officer, and a paid police detail. Boston Latin Academy students were allowed to bring one guest. Identification and guest contracts were required. BLA students had to show their school ID to be admitted.

Despite our efforts to provide a safe and orderly function, fights broke out. Additional police were called in by the detail. State troopers also responded. They took control of the situation and vacated the hall. Students were sent outside and away from the hall.
