If you were unable to attend Curriculum and Preparing for College: A Workshop for Sophomore Parents and Students, I have .pdf files of the handouts that Ms. Chiu gave to us. E-mail me at if you want them. I’ll send you one e-mail for each handout.

Here’s a list of the handouts:

1. State Colleges and Universities of Massachusetts Admissions Requirements (2 pages)

2. Class of 2008 Course Planning Worksheet shows course requirements for the class of 2008, for those who entered BLA in 7th grade and those who entered in 9th grade. 2006-2007 Course Offerings lists the courses available to the class of 2007. As they plan for next year, sophomores (class of 2008) who qualify may be able to elect a course from the list, if space is available. Sample Transcript for Class of 2008 shows 4 examples of student transcripts. This is a good reference for college planning because it shows how colleges rate different transcripts. (3 pages)

3. A List of Schools That Do Not Use SAT I or ACT Scores for Admitting Substantial Numbers of Students Into Bachelor Degree Programs As of January 2006. Not all colleges require standardized test scores. This list is provided by Fairtest: The National Center for Fair and Open Testing.

4. Stonehill College’s College Planning Worksheet is a form that takes inventory of a student’s academic preparation, interests and aptitudes, extracurricular contributions, and special considerations. It gives you an idea of what colleges are looking for before you apply. (2 pages)

5. Tips for Considering Summer Opportunities is a tip sheet for summer opportunities, prepared by Ms. Catherine Chiu. It helps students “plan to make your high school summers fun, meaningful, and profitable.” (2 pages)

6. How to be Accepted into the Boston Latin Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society (2 pages)

There were other handouts for specific summer opportunities in Boston that I do not have. Your child can visit the guidance office for these. An online source for summer opportunities is Summer Stuff 2006.
