Dear Friends,
Next Tuesday, May 19th at 4:30 pm, there is a rally being organized by Boston teachers , together with parents and students against the school budget cuts. The BTU is also sponsoring the rally. A group of teachers worked very hard to get this motion passed in the union. The goal however is to unite with parents and students, neighborhood groups and other unions - to show solidarity against the cuts. We believe that if we unite to demand that they find another way to balance the budget, we can stop these cuts. We should not let them balance the budget at the expense of our children!!! Statewide, education is being cut by nearly $300 million, while our government gave the financial industry $1.4 trilion, and spent $3 trillion on mideast war. Large well connected institutions pay little or no taxes to our city. Our children deserve the right to a decent education - the money belongs here. Time after time, over the last 10-15 years cuts have continually been made in the school budgets. There is nothing left to cut. We must build unity to turn this trend around.
Please help organize this protest!! We need speakers, banners! Contact: . .If you are interested, or want to discuss further, you can reach myself or teachers at rallyfor schools @gmail.com., or at our BLA site in the discussion session. or . Heidi
