There is a rumor going around that in the future they may consider Boston Latin Academy to be a NON testing school??  Please verify if this is true or not?

I have heard the same ‘rumor’ - I cannot confirm or deny other than to say it’s definitely circulating around.

Also, circulating (that no one has commented on) is the fact that the mandatory Health class requirement may prevent students from graduating. Again, rumor, but unnerving just the same.

The only thing I could find was a student who felt that the changes to the English curriculum were going to make it too easy. The kids understand when they are not getting the level of instruction they deserve.

I heard it wasn’t just the weakening of the curriculum, but also the pretty atrocious behavior that some students are exhibiting in the school. The destruction and attempted destruction of school property, the high rate of theft in the school of cellphones, iPods, Nintendo DSes, etc…

An Exam school isn’t just about rigorous academics, it’s also about social responsibility/maturity.

I brought up this question today (3/9/10) at the School Site Council Meeting and was assured by Ms. Tracy Wagner, Program Director, English that it is just a rumor and there is no truth to it.  We were further reassured by Dr. Linda Cabral, Assistant Academic Superintendent-High Schools who was also at the meeting.

On the English curriculum being too easy...this is not accurate. Ms. Wagner is changing the curriculum. Her goal is to make the curriculum more rigorous, not less. She plans to present the new curriculum to parents at the School Parent Council meeting on Wednesday, May 5th.

That is good, I hope the kids can step it up when it comes to intellectual achievement.
