Dear Parents,

The School Parents Council is planning a Teacher Appreciation lunch for Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 11:45 in BLA’s upper cafeteria. We expect about 100 guests, including 79 teachers, administrators and support staff. We need volunteers to plan for or help with the following:

Decorations - We need someone who can make sure the tables look inviting. We’ll need tablecloths, center pieces, etc.

Food, beverages, and dessert - Cold food, like sandwiches, salads, crudites, munchies, etc. would be best since we probably won’t have full use of the cafeteria. Single serving bottled beverages such as water, juice, and sports drinks work well. You can donate food you make yourself, buy food, or get a food donation from a local business.

Paper Products - We need someone to make sure we have plates, cups, utensils, etc.

Setup and serving - We need parents to commit to come to BLA on the 22nd to set up and clean up.

Goodies bags for 100 - We need someone to design the bags and organize putting them together. We can spend up to $10/person.

Recognition of Retirees - We need ideas on this. 14 teachers are retiring. I don’t have their names but I know the departments they are from and whether they are male or female.

Free Raffle - We need someone to collect items to raffle and set up a box from which we could draw names. If anyone would like to donate a raffle item, let us know. Think about donating something that you yourself might like to receive. You could donate gift certificates or tickets, like movie gift certificates, a gift certificate to your favorite restaurant or coffee shop, a bookstore gift certificate, spa certificate, auto detailing gift certificate, car wash tickets, movie tickets, sports tickets, etc.

Other - Did I forget anything? Let me know.

Please help in any way that you can. Not everyone’s schedule will allow them to help on the day of the luncheon, but anything you can do to help honor the teachers is valuable. Click to e-mail me and let me know what you can do. Thank you.

Connie,

Is there a way to make a monetary donation if we are unable to help that day?

Hi Donna,

Sure. And thank you for asking. I know there are many time-starved parents/guardians out there who still want to contribute. If anyone wants to contribute monetarily, I would suggest either of the following:

· Buy an item for the free raffle.

· Make out a check to the BLA Booster Club. The SPC will spend the money on any items that are needed for the lunch.

You can mail your check/raffle item to school or have your child bring it to the main office.

If your child will be bringing your check/raffle item to the main office, please label it ATTN: Maria Garcia-Aaronson for SPC and ask your child to hand it to an office staff member or administrator.

If you will be mailing your check/raffle item, please include a note that it is for the SPC Teacher Lunch and mail to:

Hi Connie,
I won’t be able to attend that day but would love to contribute. I dont know how much you have done on your list so far.
Is there any area where there has not been a lot of contributions. Just trying to find what category would be most helpful to donate to.
Thanks.

Hi Cheryl and All,

Thank you for offering a donation. So far we have plenty of beverages and paper products. We have some sandwich rollups, a fruit salad, and cake. We could use more rollups, other sandwiches, other luncheon foods (cut up veggies, salads, chips, pickles, etc.) or desserts. If giving food is not practical for you, we could use some items for the free raffle.

I still need some good ideas for goody bags and honoring the retirees. If you have suggestions or you want to make a donation, click to e-mail me.
