Hi can anyone tell me if there are a required amount of community service hours for graduation?  If so, when and how do students keep track of their hours?  Is there a specific form to be filled out?

Thanks!

Hi Maureen,

I e-mailed Ms. Chiu our Guidance Director about this. She replied, ”Regarding the community service, the students must complete 60 hours of service during their high school years.  In general, a letter from the organization in which the student completes their service is sufficient.

Students can begin earning community service hours as soon as they enter BLA in either the 7th grade or the 9th grade. They should make sure that they keep records of their community service with letters from the organization that explain what they did for community service and how many hours they spent. When they are seniors, they must submit their letters to the Guidance Department.

If you have any more questions about community service, call Guidance at 617-635-9961 or e-mail Ms. Catherine Chiu at

Do community service hours have to involve the school or can they be done outside of the school?

thank you my daughter helps out at her sister’s dance recital “babysitting the yournger girls” while the recital goes on each year and helps out a local girl scout troop.  Glad she can add these to her Hours...she is in the 8 th grade now.
