At the School Parent Council meeting last evening, we formed a committee to take charge of the BLA School Store. (The parents who ran the store last year are no longer at BLA (their students graduated) so there has been a gap in coverage and the store has not been open on a regular basis so far this school year.) It was an excellent SPC meeting on all counts, with really great turnout by parents, and we were able to make a good start with our School Store committee.
Several parents stepped up last night to help out but we still need more volunteers so that we can operate the store on a regular schedule. This is a really easy and satisfying volunteer oportunity which only takes a small time committment. Customary store hours are before school, from about 6:50am until about 7:20am and parents typically volunteer for one morning a week, or even every other week. Some folks volunteer to be substitutes, as needed. We will also need volunteers to open the store for school events so that parents can shop. All help is appreciated! On Open House Night on November 16th, it would be great if you could get kids to volunteer to sell School Store items since parents will be busy visiting teachers. I think parents would welcome the chance to buy BLA bumperstickers, etc as they wait in line. Plus I think we have some very saavy salespeople among our children. The SPC can give community service hours to student volunteers.
